Important MEPCO and OMERS Updates

MEPCO Contribution Invoices

Invoices for 2025 contributions were sent out to MEPCO members in December 2024. MEPCO members are those municipalities and District Social Service Administration Boards that are OMERS-participating employers. Contributions are calculated by employee headcount provided by OMERS based on a rate of $5.25 per employee, which has remained the same since 2013. Member contributions enable MEPCO to support effective governance and advocate for a sustainable pension Plan. Thank you to those who contribute to this important work.

OMERS Board Appointments

As a legislated Plan sponsor, AMO may appoint two individuals to the OMERS Sponsors Corporation Board and may nominate two individuals to the OMERS Administration Corporation Board. In 2024, MEPCO undertook recruitment processes to identify two individuals, one to serve each of the two OMERS governing boards.

MEPCO is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Brown was appointed by AMO to the OMERS Sponsors Corporation Board and Anik Lanthier was appointed to the OMERS Administration Corporation Board by the Sponsors Corporation on AMO’s nomination. Each of these appointments are effective January 1, 2025 for a three-year term.

On behalf of the municipal sector, MEPCO wants to sincerely thank Barry Brown who served on the OMERS Sponsors Corporation Board and Michael Fenn who served on the OMERS Administration Corporation Board for their service and contributions.

OMERS Governance Review

In August 2024, Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Paul Calandra, whose Ministry holds legislative responsibility for the OMERS Act, wrote to the Chairs of the two OMERS governing boards notifying them that the government will conduct a review of OMERS governance.

The Province of Ontario recently appointed Mr. Robert Poirier to lead the OMERS Governance Review. MEPCO will participate in the review on behalf of AMO and municipal employers.
